LOS ANGELES >> The University of Southern California and Los Angeles police say they will beef up security around the campus following the unsolved killings of two Chinese graduate students.

Officials on Thursday announced that the school will pay to put four more city police officers on patrol. In addition, Police Chief Charlie Beck says 30 more officers will be assigned to the division that handles the university.

Other measures will include more parole checks on local gang members, more video cameras on campus and a city prosecutor dedicated to handling the area.

The chief says investigators are making progress on the April 11 killings but he won’t elaborate.

USC President C.L. Max Nikias says the shooting so far has not affected overseas recruiting efforts. USC has an extensive international student population.
