No tsunami from 6.7 magnitude earthquake near Tonga
The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center says a 6.7 magnitude earthquake near Tonga did not generate a destructive tsunami.
The earthquake struck at about 12:08 a.m. Hawaii time 173 miles west of Neiafu, Tonga and 173 miles north of Nukualofa, Tonga at a depth of about 80 miles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The warning center said based on the depth of the earthquake and other data, no Pacific-wide destructive tsunami was expected.
There were no immediate reports of damage or injury from the earthquake.
