A 38-year-old man was charged today in connection with a Thursday night shooting at Nuuanu Garden Apartments.

Wellington Faleafine is being held in lieu of $100,000 for second-degree attempted murder and two firearm offenses. He is expected to appear in court Monday.

Officers served a search warrant Saturday afternoon at Faleafine’s home at Nuuanu Garden Apartments and arrested Faleafine and his 43-year-old wife.

Faleafine’s wife, who was suspected of harboring her husband, was arrested for investigation of first-degree hindering prosecution, police said. She was released pending investigation.

Police said Faleafine shot a 27-year-old man during an argument at 10:13 p.m. Thursday at Nuuanu Garden Apartments. The victim was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition, but he was later upgraded to stable condition.

Police arrested three men Thursday night in connection with the shooting. However Faleafine was identified as a new suspect Friday and officers received information on his whereabouts, leading to the search warrant. The gun has not been recovered.

A 35-year-old Kuhio Park Terrace man, possibly involved in the shooting, is being held on $50,000 bail after being charged with burglary on Saturday.

Michael Napeahi allegedly broke into a home on Robello Lane Thursday night, while police were searching for him in connection with the shooting. Police arrested him at about 11 p.m.

Police said an argument between the victim and the suspects escalated into the victim being shot several times in the head and torso by a 25-caliber gun at 10:13 p.m. Thursday.

Two men drove away, but officers stopped their vehicle on School Street near Houghtailing Street at 10:56 p.m. The occupants of the vehicle, a 26-year-old Pearl City man and a 30-year-old Kalihi Valley man, were arrested for investigation of attempted murder. They were released at about 7 p.m. Friday.

Faleafine has eight convictions and one probation revocation charge, according to the state Criminal Justice Data Center. His convictions include three felonies for drugs and one felony for breaking into a vehicle.
