Honolulu police said the driver of a garbage truck apparently suffered a fatal heart attack before crashing into two trucks on Kilua Place on Sand Island Thursday afternoon.

A 42-year-old Waianae man suffered a heart attack while driving a garbage truck on Sand Island, lost control of the vehicle and struck two parked trucks, police said.

The driver was seen passed out behind the wheel before he crashed into a 2006 grey truck and a 1994 pickup truck at about 3 p.m. Thursday afternoon, police said.

Paramedics took the victim to the Kaiser Medical Center, where he died.

Police did not specify whether the man was operating a city or privately-owned green garbage truck.
