A 53-year-old Waipahu man was charged today for allegedly ramming three men with a pickup truck during an argument in Waipahu.

Charles S. Valdez was charged with one count of first-degree attempted murder and three counts of second-degree attempted murder. He remained in custody Saturday afternoon in lieu of $50,000 bail.

Police said Valdez rammed the three men during a dispute that began when a 48-year-old man was evicting his 30-year-old tenant and the tenant’s family about 10 p.m. Tuesday. That’s when the tenant threw large rocks at his landlord and the landlord’s brother and nephew. 

A 29-year-old Waipahu man who was with the tenant allegedly struck the brother and the brother’s son with a billy club.

Police said Valdez was also with the tenant and rammed the three victims with a Mazda truck and hit a wall. The landlord sustained the worst injuries with a broken leg.

All three assailants fled, but police arrested the younger men that night on suspicion of assault. They are no longer in police custody.

Valdez was arrested at the main police station Thursday.

Police said all three victims went to the hospital in serious but stable condition.
