Hornets finish off sweep of Rainbows
Justin Higley, Derrick Chung and Trevor Paine all hit home runs to help Sacramento State finish off a three-game sweep of Hawaii with a 10-2 victory on Sunday at John Smith Field in Sacramento, Calif.
The Hornets (29-23, 11-7 Western Athletic Conference) finished league play with its 11th win in its last 12 home games against Hawaii (28-21, 8-7).
The Rainbows dropped into a tie with New Mexico State for third in the WAC, two games behind WAC-leader Nevada, which closes conference play with a three-game series at Les Murakami Stadium beginning Thursday.
Scott Squier (3-4) lasted just two innings, allowing three runs on five hits.
Brennan Leitao (6-4) allowed two runs on 10 hits in seven innings and didn’t walk a batter.
Trevor Podratz hit a solo home run and Max Duval had two hits for the Rainbows.

Freshman right-hander David Longville and Hawaii coach Mike Trapasso were ejected in the sixth inning. Longville was tossed after hitting Rhys Hoskins with a pitch following a home run by Chung. Trapasso was then tossed moments later arguing the call.
Trapasso said on Sunday that senior right-hander Matt Sisto will not pitch against the Wolf Pack next week because of a groin injury.
Hawaii ends the roadtrip with a single game at UC Davis on Monday at 11:30 a.m. Hawaii time.
