Police are investigating Wednesday’s hit-and-run crash at the intersection of Isenberg and Date streets as a negligent homicide case.

The victim, identified as 38-year-old Ricky Donre of Honolulu, died Saturday night at the Queen’s Medical Center, and after suffering what police described as “critical, massive head injuries” when the mo-ped he was operating was struck by a silver Nissan.

According to police, the Nissan was traveling makai on Isenberg street at a high rate of speed then made a left turn into the mo-ped, which was traveling in the opposite direction. The Nissan fled the scene and police are still looking for the driver. The incident occurred just after 9:30 p.m.

Police believe speed may have been a factor in the crash, which happened under an overhead street light.

Police closed Isenberg, Date and Citron streets for three hours while Traffic Division officers investigated the crash scene.
