State, Kauai County and private personnel continued to battle a 40-acre brush fire Tuesday on Milolii Ridge in the Na Pali-Kona Forest Reserve, the state Department of Land and Natural Resources said.

The fire began Monday and was burning molasses grass and slash pine, officials said. The cause of the fire was not determined Tuesday.

Because there is no wind, it is not spreading rapidly, officials said.

A county Fire Department helicopter and two private helicopters made water drops, while firefighters on the ground worked with two wildfire trucks and water pump units.
