Kauai brushfire is 70% contained
Fire crews are close to containing a large wildfire in Kauai.
The Department of Land and Natural Resources reported Monday that 70 percent of the wildfire contained in the Na Pali-Kona Forest Reserve on Milolii Ridge six miles southwest of Kokee State Park. County firefighters put a fire break line around the 200-acre perimeter and are now working on hot spots. Approximately 50 state personnel continue to battle the wildfire.
The Milolii Ridge Trail remains closed.
The fire was reported to DLNR on May 28. To date, an estimated $200,000 has been expended to battle the wildfire.
