Firefighters stop Waialua brush fire that neared houses

Firefighters stopped a small brush fire tonight that came within yards of houses in Waialua.

The fire started about 7:30 p.m. and reached about 40 yards from houses on Kukea Circle, said Honolulu fire Capt. Terry Seelig.

Firefighters brought the wildfire under control in 20 minutes and planned to spend about another hour wrapping up, Seelig said. The fire burned less than an acre. A cause was not determined.
