Nuuanu woman arrested after officer struck in shoplifting inquiry

A 46-year-old Nuuanu woman is in police custody after she allegedly struck a police officer Tuesday while being questioned about shoplifting.

Police said that while questioning the suspect, the police officer recognized that she had been arrested earlier for trespassing in the same Nuuanu store.

The woman punched the officer. Both were taken to a hospital to be treated.

The woman faces possible charges of assaulting a law enforcement officer and second-degree burglary.
