Ex-Red Cross employee allegedly embezzled $52,000

A 62-year-old former employee of a nonprofit organization surrendered to police at noon Thursday for allegedly embezzling more than $52,961.08 during her employment.

The Hawaii Chapter of the American Red Cross discovered the theft after an internal audit, and immediately reported it to police.

Police arrested the woman on suspicion of first-degree theft and use of a computer in commission of a separate crime.

Police said the theft allegedly occurred from July 8, 2004, to Jan. 5.
