Mo-ped rider in Kalaeloa crash is Oahu’s 26th fatal of 2012

The 63-year-old Ewa Beach man, who was critically injured in a mo-ped accident Saturday in Kalaeloa, died Wednesday morning at the Queen’s Medical Center.

The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified the man as Sidney Ribuca.

Ribuca died of head injuries due to the mo-ped collision, the Medical Examiner’s Office found.

Police said the mo-ped operator crashed into a concrete barrier after losing control while riding south on Coral Sea Road near San Jacinto Road.

The man, who was not wearing a helmet, was thrown from the mo-ped and struck the barrier.

He was taken with head and other injuries to Queen’s, where he was pronounced dead 6:20 a.m. Wednesday.

Police said speed may have been a factor in the crash.

It was the 26th Oahu traffic fatality this year compared with 24 the same time last year.
