Power restored, traffic flowing following North Shore crash
A traffic accident cut power to Hawaiian Electric customers in Malaekahana Sunday.
The crash occurred around 12:45 a.m., when a motorist drove into a utility pole on Kamehameha Highway, causing it to fall into the street, according to Hawaiian Electric.
The driver, a man in his 30s, was hospitalized in serious condition following the crash, Emergency Medical Services said.
The initial outage affected close to 3,000 homes until about 2 a.m., and a remaining 40 customers were without power until around 10:30 a.m., a HECO spokeswoman said.
Traffic on Kamehameha Highway near the Malaekahana State Recreational Area was contraflowed during the repairs.
