Honolulu man dies after suffering injuries in car crash last month

A 68-year-old Honolulu man died Monday night after suffering injuries in a one-car collision on Sand Island Access Road last month, police said.

The victim, who was not identified, was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in good condition after the accident, but he died at about 9:08 p.m. Monday night, police said this morning.

The man was driving west on Sand Island Access Road at about 10:34 p.m. on May 31 when he lost control of the vehicle and collided with two walls, according to police. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash but it was unknown if speed was a factor or whether he was wearing a seatbelt, police said.

The death is the 27 traffic fatality on Oahu so far this year, compared with 27 at the same time last year, police said.
