Federal firefighters investigate house fire on Ford Island
Federal firefighters are investigating the cause of a two-story house fire tonight on Ford Island.
Four Honolulu fire companies were sent to the fire at 1043 West Virginia St. at 9:06 p.m. and assisted federal firefighters who already were on scene, said Honolulu fire Capt. James Todd.
Honolulu firefighters also helped a pre-teen girl, who may have sustained burns, and turned her over to federal firefighters, who checked her out and released her at the scene, Todd said.
He said the fire was brought under control and federal firefighters were still working on the fire by the time Honolulu firefighters left before 10 p.m.
Federal firefighters, who have jurisdiction over the fire on military property, will determine the cause and a damage estimate, Todd said.
A federal firefighter supervisor said firefighters were still working on the fire and further information was not available.
