Procession for former chief Gibb will close Beretania briefly
A funeral motorcade in honor of retired Honolulu police chief Douglas Gibb will mean a shutdown of South Beretania Street between Ward Avenue and Alapai Street for several minutes sometime between 2:15-2:25 p.m today.
The closure will allow Honolulu Police Department officers to offer a “final salute” in honor of Gibb, HPD’s sixth chief who led the department from 1983-1989. Gibb, 72, died July 1 in Des Moines, Iowa.
A funeral motorcade will leave Borthwick Mortuary at 2:15 p.m. It is expected to reach the front of HPD’s Alapai Street headquarters about 2:25. The motorcade will then return to Borthwick where a visitation will run from 4-6 p.m. The funeral service begins at 6. Maunakea Street will be closed between North Vineyard Boulevard and North Kukui Street from 2-8 p.m.
