Hawaii ranks well for affordable auto insurance

Hawaii has the third-most affordable car insurance cost-burden in the nation, according to research released today by CarInsuranceQuotes.com .

The research divided the median cost for car insurance by the median household income to arrive at the rankings.

Among the 50 states and the District of Columbia, Hawaii is ranked at No. 49, with median income of $76,134, median car insurance costs at $1,244, with 1.634 percent of household income spent on auto insurance coverage.

The state of Michigan was found to have the highest auto insurance cost burden, with residents paying 8.003 percent of household income for car coverage.
