Accused car thief arrested again for allegedly driving stolen vehicle

A 22-year-old Kailua-Kona man, who was out on bail after he was arrested in July for driving a stolen car, will make his initial court appearance Friday for allegedly driving another stolen car.

Authorities charged Jesse Travis Ralston Thursday with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle, unathorized entry into a motor vehicle, theft and reckless driving. He is being held in lieu of $31,000 bail.

An off-duty police officer spotted a man allegedly driving recklessly at 6:30 a.m. Wednesday on Highway 19 heading west.

The officer called for help and followed the car, which was reported stolen earlier that morning in Waimea.

The Honda got off the highway, stopped at a dead end on Palikekua Street in Honokaa, where the driver fled on foot.

Area residents alerted officers canvassing the area that a man matching the driver’s description, was seen leaving the nearby bushes.

Officers arrested Ralston at 10:20 a.m. in Honokaa where he was taken to the Kona police station.

Ralston was charged July 19 with unauthorized control of a propelled vehicle after being arrested in another stolen car. He was released that night after posting $2,000 bail.
