Maui County rescue personnel Monday helped two stand-up paddle boarders who had been blown out to sea off the Makani A Kai condominium in Maalaea, and picked up two people who had gone to the aid of the paddle boarders but wound up needing help themselves.

The paddle boarders were about a half-mile from shore when rescue personnel arrived about 3 p.m.

Witnesses said a woman on a surfboard and a man with a mask and snorkel had gone to help the paddlers, but got into trouble themselves.

All were back safely on shore at 3:27 p.m. No one needed medical attention.
