Hawaii County police today identified a fisherman who died Saturday as Ian Tengan, 37, of Hilo.

Two fire rescue divers recovered his body in Pepeekeo on Saturday, Hawaii County fire officials said.

A friend reported Tengan was swept off the rocky shoreline by rough waves and disappeared beneath the surf, fire officials said. The Fire Department received the call at 3:09 p.m. Saturday.

The Fire Department personnel quickly started a search with two divers and recovered the body from an area off 23 Flats Beach near the 12 mile marker on Highway 19. He was recovered shortly afterward, fire officials said.

He was taken to Hilo Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 6:02 p.m., police said.

Police have requested an autopsy to determine his cause of death.
