Hawaii island sign waving warns against drinking in beach parks

Hawaii County community policing officers and Salvation Army representatives held a sign-waving activity Friday along Kalanianaole Avenue in Hilo to remind people that drinking in beach parks is prohibited.

That followed a community outreach session two weeks ago at Richardson Beach Park in which officials offered information about alternative programs for youth and about the laws regarding drinking alcoholic beverages and smoking tobacco at beach parks.

The outreach and sign-waving projects are part of several community awareness events regarding alcohol abuse that police have planned over the next several months as the holidays approach.

Any groups or individuals who wish to participate in future public-awareness projects may call the Community Policing Section at 961-8121.
