No. 8 Hawaii tops Cal Poly in volleyball

Junior All-American Emily Hartong put down a match-high 20 kills and No. 8 Hawaii remained undefeated in Big West volleyball play with a 25-15, 25-17, 17-25, 25-19 victory over Cal Poly tonight in San Luis Obispo, Calif.

Junior hitter Ashley Kastl and freshman middle Jade Vorster each had 11 kills for the Rainbow Wahine (13-2, 6-0 Big West). Kastl added 10 digs and Vorster was in on four of UH’s 10 blocks.

The Mustangs (1-15, 0-4) got 12 kills each from Molly Pon and Holly Franks.

It was the first match for Hawaii without sophomore hitter Jane Croson, who was suspended indefinitely earlier this week for violating team rules. Freshman hitter Tai Manu-Olevao, who had been redshirting, was activated tonight and played in all four sets and finished with two kills.

Hawaii finishes its second road trip Saturday at UC Santa Barbara. The Gauchos (9-10 2-2) defeated Cal State Northridge tonight 25-23, 25-20, 25-16
