California woman injured jumping into Maunawili pool

A 56-year-old San Jose, Calif., woman was airlifted by helicopter out of the Maunawili Falls area in Windward Oahu Sunday after jumping into a pool.

The woman complained of back pains after jumping 25 feet into the pool, fire spokesman Capt. Carlton Yamada said.

According to her son, Yamada said, she jumped into the pool and landed on her feet and buttocks.

The woman, who was part of a hiking party of five people, was airlifted out of the falls area close to noon to Maunawili Valley District Park, where she was taken by ambulance to a hospital.

Yamada said the woman was in stable condition and able to talk.
