Former University of Hawaii quarterback Colt Brennan pleaded not guilty today to a drunken-driving charge.

His next court date was set for Jan. 2.

Brennan did not appear this morning at Kaneohe district court to make the plea. An attorney made it on his behalf. 

Police arrested Brennan on July 25 in Kailua for investigation of driving under the influence of alcohol. His blood-alcohol content was .17, more than twice the legal threshold of .08.

In August, the prosecutor’s office said it did not pursue drug possession charges against Brennan because the state could not prove beyond a reasonable doubt that the cocaine residue found in a plastic packet in the car he was driving belonged to him.

At about 11:26 p.m. on July 25, a police officer saw a maroon Chevrolet Cruze operated by Brennan traveling north at a high rate of speed on Kalanianaole Highway, passing the Kapaa Quarry Road intersection.

The officer pulled him over on Kailua Road just before Uluoa Street. According to a police report, Brennan had bloodshot eyes and his speech was slightly slurred. The officer also reported that he could smell a strong odor of alcohol on his breath and that Brennan’s balance was unsteady when he exited the vehicle. 

Brennan’s driver’s license was revoked for a year following his arrest.
