Two visitors from Japan injured in unrelated stabbing incidents in Waikiki several hours apart on Tuesday have been released from the hospital and are on their way back home, according to Jessica Lani Rich, executive director of the Visitor Aloha Society of Hawaii.

A 21-year-old Waikiki woman who had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and first-degree robbery in connection with one of the stabbings was released after the victim, 29, declined to pursue charges, police said. The man and woman had argued before the stabbing.

The woman was arrested after police followed a trail of blood from where the victim was found on a Kuhio Avenue sidewalk back to her apartment on Ala Wai Boulevard shortly after the 4:22 a.m. incident.

In the second case, the 25-year male victim reported being approached from behind by a man and woman on Liliuokalani Avenue near Cleghorn Street about midnight Tuesday. After a brief struggle, the man was assaulted with an unknown sharp instrument, police said. The suspects both fled the scene with cash, police said.

VASH assisted both victims, who were released from the hospital and were scheduled to return back to Japan Thursday, Rich said.
