Tourist rescued by Kauai personnel after seizure while boogie-boarding

A 29-year-old visitor from Santa Cruz, Calif., apparently suffering a seizure while boogie-boarding at Kealia Beach. was pulled from the water about 9:55 a.m. Thursday by Kauai County rescue personnel.

The lifeguards brought the visitor to shore and performed CPR, which restored his breathing.

Firefighters from the Kaiakea station also responded. They placed the visitor on a long board and brought to an ambulance and parmedics transported the visitor to Wilcox Hospital, where he is currently in the intensive care unit.

The California resident had been boogie-boarding with friends about 150 yards from the shore in an area known as Broccoli Trees when the incident occurred.
