Southern Methodist has accepted an invitation to play in the Sheraton Hawaii Bowl, the school announced today.
The Mustangs (6-6), who won four of their last six games, will play either Fresno State (9-3, 7-1) or Boise State (9-2, 6-1) of the Mountain West Conference in the Dec. 24 game at Aloha Stadium.
Boise State concludes its regular season Saturday against Nevada.
“Having been affiliated with this bowl since its inception, I know that it is one of the best bowl experiences in college football,” said SMU head coach June Jones, a former Hawaii (1999-2007) head coach. “I’m very excited for our players, staff and fans. This is a special experience.”
The Mustangs finished second to Tulsa in Conference USA’s West Division with a 5-3 league record.
The Mustangs, who had not gone to a bowl in 25 years before the 2009 Hawaii Bowl, will be making their fourth consecutive bowl appearance.
