Late rally comes up short for UH women’s hoops team
A spirited comeback attempt came up just short for the Hawaii women’s basketball team, which lost 62-61 to Utah today at the Stan Sheriff Center.
UH (2-6) trailed 60-45 with 2:26 to play, then went on a 16-2 run to give itself a chance to win.
Vicky Tagalicod hit a top-arc 3-pointer with 5.4 seconds left to make it a one-point game. The Wahine then took a foul and the Utes missed a 1-and-1 free throw.
Freshman Destiny King grabbed the rebound and dribbled upcourt, but the Utes (7-0) converged on her and blocked her desperation shot just inside halfcourt at the buzzer.
Junior foward Kamilah Martin led the 22 points and seven rebounds.
Kalani graduate Iwalani Rodrigues scored 14 points on 4-for-14 shooting for the Utes.
