Fire damages Kaneohe home

A large home in Kaneohe was damaged by fire and smoke early Wednesday afternoon, the Honolulu Fire Department said.

Firefighters responded to the blaze at 45-087 Waiape Place about 12:31 p.m. They declared it under control about 12:42 p.m., said Capt. Terry Seelig, HFD spokesman.

Two rooms in the large house were damaged, Seelig said. No one was home at the time. Thirteen people live in the house and the American Red Cross has been activated to assist the families living there, he said.

Three engine and one ladder company fought the blaze, Seelig said.
