Byron’s Drive-In to close next year
Byron’s Drive-In near Honolulu Airport, the last of a group of family-run restaurants serving Hawaii for generations, will close at the end of February.
Manager Ruth Arakaki confirmed the closure, but the Feb. 28 date is a bit uncertain, she said.
The quick-service restaurant is popular for its burgers slathered with customer-favorite red or yellow sauces, among other dishes, and is the last vestige of a restaurant dynasty established by the late Andy Wong and his wife Marian in the 1950s.
The restaurant’s parent company, Pacific Food Services Inc., was informed that the landowner’s plans will involve the demolition of the eatery, which opened in the mid-1960s.
The landowner has not yet responded to Star-Advertiser queries.
