Penn loses to MacDonald in unanimous decision
SEATTLE >> Rory MacDonald defeated B.J. Penn by unanimous decision in a co-feature bout of the UFC on FOX 5 event at Key Arena on Saturday night.
MacDonald hurt Penn with a kick to the ribs in the second round and also scored a takedown.
The fighters traded shots early, but MacDonald controlled the rest of the fight on his feet, using a wide array of kicks to frustrate Penn.
Two judges scored the fight 30-26, while the third had it 30-27.
The start to the third round was delayed a few seconds as a ringside doctor checked Penn’s left eye, which was badly swollen.
MacDonald improved to 14-1 overall and handed Penn (16-9-2) his fourth loss in his last six UFC fights.
