4 hikers rescued after getting lost in Koolaus

Fire rescue personnel assisted four hikers after a planned two-day hiking trip went astray along the Koolau mountain range.

According to Honolulu Fire Department spokesperson Capt. Terry Seelig, the four local males, all in their 20s, started out on Friday intending to hike from Kahana to Pupukea along the Koolau ridgeline. The group, who had supplies for only two days, got lost over the weekend and eventually called for help Sunday at 10:40 a.m.

Fire rescue workers were able to quickly locate the hikers, who were then airlifted to safety.

The hikers were examined by Emergency Medical Services personnel but did not require further medical care.
