Suspect charged in stabbing of woman in Waikiki
A 23-year-old man with a Schofield Barracks address was charged today after he allegedly stabbed a woman multiple times in a stairwell in Waikiki.
Solomon D.M. Battle was charged with second-degree attempted murder. He is being held in lieu of $100,000 bail.
Police said the suspect and victim, in her early-to-mid-20s, were seen walking together in Waikiki sometime before 3:24 a.m. Sunday. Witnesses heard the victim scream and saw the suspect flee from a stairwell near a hotel. Police said the woman managed to track down a security guard who called for help.
There are conflicting reports on the victim’s condition. The Emergency Medical Services Department said paramedics transported the woman to the hospital from a site on Kuhio Avenue and Nahua Street in serious condition. Police said the victim sustained life-threatening injuries and was transported in critical condition.
Officers conducted an extensive search and located the suspect at 5:54 a.m. in a room at the Princess Kaiulani Hotel.
The victim remains in critical condition, according to police.
