Large wave broadsides catamaran outside Pokai Bay
Honolulu Ocean Safety personnel escorted a 72-foot double-deck catamaran back to the Waianae Small Boat Harbor this afternoon after a large breaking wave broadsided it, the city said.
Ocean Safety personnel saw the catamaran with 65 people aboard leaving the harbor about 3:15 when a large wave hit it outside of Pokai Bay.
Rescue personnel responded, determined there were no injuries and escorted the vessel safely back to the harbor.
Ocean Safety personnel also rescued a male visitor who had been swept by strong current about 1 quarter-mile off Lahilahi Point, and escorted two riders on a jet ski from Maili Point to Waianae Small Boat Harbor after a wave knocked them off the water craft.
