Maui County fire officials today rescued a lost hiker who said he was on the Pali trail for four days and ran out of water after the third day.

The 57-year-old Kahului man was airlifted about 12:40 p.m. to a landing zone set up in the parking area at the intersection of North Kihei Road and Honoapiilani Highway.

The man declined medical attention and was picked up by friends after the rescue.
