Pedestrian, 82, dies in accident on Kaneohe Bay Drive
An 82-year-old man died after being hit by a car while attempting to walk across Kaneohe Bay Drive in front of the Bay View Golf Course this morning.
The crash happened about 6:45 a.m., police and city Department of Emergency Services personnel said.
The man apparently had pulled over to the shoulder of the roadway and was walking across the street to a home that sells papayas when he was struck by a Toyota Echo driven by a man, 39, heading west, a police official said.
There was a steady rain at the time of the crash, police said.
The victim was taken to Castle Medical Center in critical condition where he later died, police said.
A portion of Kaneohe Bay Drive was closed as police investigate the scene but it has since reopened.
