Hawaii upsets No. 2 Pepperdine in men’s volleyball

Freshman hitter Sinisa Zarkovic put down a career-high 19 kills and sophomore hitter Brook Sedore added 17 as unranked stunned No. 2 Pepperdine 19-25, 25-18, 22-25, 25-21, 15-11 in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation men’s volleyball match at the Stan Sheriff Center tonight.

Zarkovic served the final five points of the match as the Warriors (2-6, 1-4 MPSF) won their first conference match of the season. Sophomore hitter JP Marks added 12 kills and a match-high 16 digs  for Hawaii, which has seen all four home matches go to five sets this year.

Senior hitter Maurice Torres led the Waves (3-2, 3-2) with 20 kills.

The Warriors let Set 3 get away, seeing a 19-13 lead disappear. Hawaii was outscored 12-3 at the end, giving Pepperdine the win.

Sedore had four of the Warriors’ eight aces but also six of the team’s 21 service errors.

Tonight’s match lasted 2 hours and 36 minutes.
