UH pitcher Jones has partial tear in elbow
An MRI on Tuesday revealed a partial tear in the left elbow of Hawaii junior pitcher Andrew Jones, which could force him to miss the rest of the season.
Hawaii coach Mike Trapasso said Wednesday that Jones would rehab the injury for three weeks before deciding whether or not to have season-ending surgery.
Even if the injury heals, Trapasso estimated "eight weeks" before Jones would be ready to pitch again.
The transfer from Grayson (Ariz.) County College pitched out of the bullpen in Monday’s 4-2 loss to No. 5 Oregon. Jones retired the first eight batters he faced and struck out four before leaving the game after giving up his only hit.
Sophomore Scott Squier (0-1, 3.86 ERA) and seniors Connor Little (0-1, 5.68) and Corey MacDonald (0-1, 6.35) will start the first three games of this week’s series against No. 13 Rice (2-2) beginning Friday at Les Murakami Stadium.
Hawaii is 0-4 for the first time since 2004.
