Women escape Kaneohe house fire
Two women escaped injury as firefighters responded to an early morning alarm for a house fire in the Keapuka subdivision of Kaneohe Thursday.
The alarm came in at 2:06 a.m. for a fire at a two-story home on Apapane Street, according to fire Capt. Terry Seelig. Seven companies of 35 firefighters had the blaze under control by 2:26 a.m. and extinguished at 2:49 a.m.
Two women were home at the time of the fire, which started and was contained to the second floor, Seelig said. The woman who lives on the second floor was getting ready for work when she noticed the fire. She grabbed her dogs and notified the woman who lives downstairs before they all got out of the house safely.
Damage to the structure is estimated at $300,000 and $50,000 for the contents. The cause is still under investigation.
No other homes were damaged.
