A minivan driven by a 14-year-old girl crashed into a utility pole, injuring the driver and a 14-year-old girl passenger this morning, the city’s Division of Emergency Medical Services reported.

The accident also caused a power outage for 2,100 customers in Waianae. The pole was repaired and power restored by 4 p.m., Hawaiian Electric said.

Paramedics took the two girls to the hospital in serious condition following the 5 a.m. accident on Waianae Valley Road.

The force of the impact knocked the utility pole off its foundation, paramedics said.

A Hawaiian Electric Co. spokesman said power was restored to most customers by 9 a.m.
