Maui police say vehicle blaze apparently set, causes brush fire

Maui police are investigating the cause of a vehicle fire in Olowalu, which started a brush fire this afternoon.

Fire crews quickly battled the brush fire and had it contained in less than an hour. A West Maui Land Co. tanker also assisted.

The Maui Fire Department reported that a vehicle was apparently set on fire, which ignited the brush fire.

The blaze was reported at 5:04 p.m.

Responding fire units found an area of about one acre burning about a quarter mile above the Olowalu General Store.

The fire was contained at 5:49 p.m. and extinguished at 7:30 p.m.

No injuries or damage to any structures were reported.
