For the second time this week, a man was arrested for interfering with the operation of a city bus.

Police said a 29-year-old man, who did not have a local address, refused to pay when boarding a city bus in Pearl City early this morning.

The incident occurred at 3:40 a.m. in the 98-1200 block of Kaahumanu Street.

The suspect argued with the 56-year-old female bus driver, allegedly assaulting her before fleeing.

He was arrested for allegedly interfering with the operator of a public transit vehicle which is a class C felony, carrying a maximum fine $10,000 and five years in jail.

On Wednesday night an 18-year-old man was arrested for the same offense when he ran to the front of a bus, verbally threatened the 47-year-old male bus driver, and refused to move from the front of the bus in Waipahu on Farrington Highway.

Roger Morton, president of Oahu Transit, said the incident began as an argument between two bus passengers.

The suspect then got off the bus, “grumbling and then started banging on the side of the bus,” Morton said. The suspect then stood in front of the bus, refusing to move.
