Woman tries unsuccessfully to flee sheriffs at District Court
A woman arrested overnight tried unsuccessfully to escape from the state District Court building in downtown Honolulu this afternoon.
Elloise Ysaol, was one of six women being moved into Courtroom 7C at about 2:25 p.m. when the incident happened, said Department of Public Safety spokeswoman Toni Schwartz.
As they were in a secured hallway just outside the courtroom coming from a holding cell, Ysaol bolted toward an emergency exit. She was wearing shackles at the time, Schwartz said.
Sheriff’s deputies secured the building and Ysaol was caught in the stairwell on the 11th floor at about 3 p.m., Schwartz said.
Ysaol had been arrested Wednesday night or Thursday morning and charged with breaking into a vehicle. She will now additionally be charged with attempted escape, Schwartz said.
