Kamuela named among best U.S. beach towns
Parents magazine has named Kamuela, on Hawaii island, the No. 8 beach town in the U.S.
The name Kamuela, (or Waimea, to many kamaaina) evokes mental images of fog-blanketed green pastures populated by horses and cattle, and rolling, verdant hills known by the area’s paniolo, or cowboys. It is the home of the famed Parker Ranch.
Parents magazine actually discusses Hapuna Beach State Park, the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel and the Hapuna Beach Prince Hotel, which are several minutes’ drive from Kamuela town, but which are on the beach, and are technically in Kamuela, according to their mailing addresses and telephone prefixes.
The Parents magazine top 10 list is topped by No. 1 Hilton Head Island, So. Carolina; Coronado, Calif., St. Pete Beach, Fla.; Falmouth, Mass., and No. 5, Cape May, N.J.
