KITV is one of only three winners of the American Legion’s Fourth Estate Award.

Entries were considered in print, broadcast and new media, and KITV won the award for its hour-long documentary on the life of Marianne Cope, just canonized by the Vatican for her work in Kalaupapa in the 1800s.

The special was produced by Pamela Young, Gary Sprinkle and Rex Von Arnswaldt.

USA Today won for an investigative series on contaminated former lead factory sites, while freelance writer Alex Quade won for her video report “Chinook Down,” for the New York Times website.

The American Legion will present its Awards in Texas in August.
