National Weather Service forecasters lifted a flood advisory for the island of Maui after heavy windward showers developed over the island for a second time Saturday.

But don’t put the umbrellas away yet. Forecasters say the chance of showers continues for Maui the showers will likely spread to Oahu and Kauai.

On  Maui, radar showed moderate to locally-heavy showers redeveloping over windward and coastal areas of Maui at 5:30 p.m. Saturday, prompting the second flood advisory of the day. The advisory expired at 8:30 p.m.

An earlier flood advisory for Maui was lifted after persistent moderate rain over windward Maui eased by 12:30 p.m. and stream gauges indicated water levels receding.

More than 5 inches of rain fell at the Hana Airport in the 24-hour period ending at 5 p.m. Saturday and nearly 4 inches was recorded at Kahakuloa.

Forecasters say remnants of a front have increased the amount of moisture in the air and the return of the north east trade winds is bringing the showers over land.

Forecasters expect the rain to spread to Oahu and Kauai and the wet conditions to linger through Tuesday.
