Rainbows complete sweep in final home game

Matt Cooper tossed eight shutout innings and Stephen Ventimilia went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Hawaii to a 6-0 shutout of UC Davis on Sunday to sweep the final three-game series of the season at Les Murakami Stadium.
Cooper (3-7) allowed five hits and walked one with four strikeouts for the Rainbows (15-33, 10-14 Big West), who won three straight for just the second time this year.
Austin Wobrock singled and drove in two runs for UH, which scored four runs in the eighth inning to put the game away.
Hawaii scored 11 of its 17 runs in the series after the sixth inning. The Rainbows took advantage of eight walks issued by four different UC Davis pitchers.
Evan Wolf (3-4) allowed one earned run in six innings to take the loss for UC Davis (19-34, 5-19), which dropped to 1-6 all-time at Les Murakami Stadium.
The Aggies, which entered the series leading the conference with a .289 batting average, were held to four runs in three games.
Kaeo Aliviado doubled and scored in the first inning on an error by Spencer Henderson in right field. Henderson misplayed a single by Pi’ikea Kitamura, who recorded his 200th career hit.
Marc Flores drew a walk but lined out to center in the eighth inning to finish 0-for-3 and snap a 10-game hitting streak.
Hawaii ends the season on the road with a three-game series at UC Riverside starting Thursday. UH needs one victory against the Highlanders to clinch seventh place in its first season in the Big West Conference and avoid its lowest win total in 39 years.
