Trade winds returning today, but vog sticking around

Cooler weather should return in time for the Memorial Day weekend when the trade winds return by tonight, National Weather Service forecasters said.

But forecasters say lingering moisture in the air could bring an increased chance of windward and mauka showers through the weekend.

The vog is also sticking around for at least another day.

Winds from the east should be light during much of today, until the trade winds become more established tonight.

The return of the trades should eventually clear the volcanic haze over the northwest islands.

But the trade winds may also blow some of the haze to the northeast of Oahu over the island, keeping skies hazy until Friday.
