The state Department of Land and Natural Resources is asking for the public’s help in finding a large container that may be floating off Windward Oahu and could approach land.

The blue container is about 20 feet long by 8 feet wide and 8 feet high. There is a small, square-framed hole in the middle of its top, and about 6 to 8 feet of the container is above water. Its origin and contents are unknown.

The DNLR said it is working with the Hawaii Interagency Marine Debris Working Group, including the NOAA Marine Debris Program, U.S. Coast Guard, Honolulu Emergency Management Department, to locate the container before it damages a reef or introduces invasive species.
